The European Parliament hosted the conference “The implementation of Eastern Partnership and Association commitments in the fight against anti-discrimination policies, justice and corruption”.
Baia Pataraia, the head “Sapari” had a speech at the conference. She discussed the issues related to the discrimination in Georgia. She also reviewed legislative mechanisms against discrimination in Georgia and the problems related to the law enforcement. In particular, the presentation highlighted the fact that sexual harassment is left out in the anti-discrimination law; it also stated the necessity of increasing the term of appeal to the court, discussed the non-binding character of the Public Defender’s recommendations, etc. Among the specific challenges there were language of hatred, hate crimes, and challenges related to ensuring freedom of assembly for LGBT people.
The representatives from Georgia -Ana Natsvlishvili (Georgian Young Lawyers Association, issues of justice) and Erekle Urushadze (Transparency International – Georgia, corruption issues) also addressed the conference.
Apart from Georgia, the representatives of Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan also participated in the event held in Brussels.
