“Sapari” demands the prohibition of sexual harassment

Today, in ‘Fabrica’ the organization held a presentation of the legislative proposal and research related to the problem of sexual harassment.

The executive director of the organization and one of the authors of the legislative initiative Baia Pataraia spoke about the necessity of introduction of legislative regulations on sexual harassment in Georgia. As Pataraia noted, the research “Sexual Harassment in Public Area: Analysis of Legislative Practice” and Information Campaign “What Happens in the Street”, were created in order to provide better protection of the rights of victims of sexual harassment in the public space from now on. Giorgi Burjanadze, the manager of the Human Rights Program of Open Society Georgia Foundation, noted that the regulation and enforcement of sexual harassment in Georgia encounters many difficulties in terms of law-making, which Open Society Georgia  Foundation is ready to overcome.

The research “Sexual Harassment in Public Area: Analysis of Legislative Practice” was presented by the author, lawyer and gender analyst Anna Iluridze. She noted that the work aimed at reviewing the legislative regulations of different countries worldwide.

MP and a member of the Gender Equality Council at the Parliament, Mariam Jashi focused on the legislative or enforcement issues that might accompany the proposed legislative initiative.
