On February 9, the head of Sapari Baia Pataraia presented a study in the Council of Europe under the title “Barriers, Means/ ways and Best Practices of Women’s Access to Justice”. The study focuses on socio-cultural, economic, political and legal barriers that women in Georgia currently face and prevents them from access to justice. The study gives the analysis of Georgian legislation and practices, and presents best practices and recommendations.
According to the author of the research, in order to increase women’s access to justice, it is necessary to carry out a number of recommendations: to raise awareness on women’s rights, increase / enhance gender sensitivity in the judiciary, take into account the gender aspect in legislation and politics, fight against gender stereotypes and harmful traditions, etc.
