The father-in-law was sentenced to 18 years for the murder of his daughter-in-law

On July 28, Batumi City Court sentenced a man to 18 years in prison for the murder of his daughter-in-law. The case was investigated under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, Article 11 Prima, sub-paragraph k, which pertains to the intentional killing of a family member under aggravating circumstances.

The incident occurred on December 11, 2022, in a village within Khelvachauri Municipality. According to the investigation, a man, who was under the age of 65, killed a 34-year-old woman with a hunting rifle. Initially, it was reported that the man had mental health issues and was addicted to alcohol. Although the examination did reveal a certain type of mental defect, it concluded that his mental condition did not exempt him from punishment in a penitentiary institution.

“At the moment [of committing the crime], he was able to fully understand the factual nature and contradiction of his testimony,” we read in the expert’s report.

The case was handled by “Sapari” lawyer Ekaterine Muzashvili.
